Atlas of Cave Morphs

Atlas of Cave Morphs is an informal collaborative project of the UIS Commission on Karst Hydrogeology and Speleogenesis.

The goal is to create the structured collection (repository) of annotated images of type and unique cave morphologies.

This is an official site of the UIS Commission on Karst Hydrogeology and Speleogenesis.

Speleogenesis is the origin and development of natural caves. Most caves develop through dissolution in readily soluble rocks, such as carbonates and evaporites. Speleogenesis can be adequately understood only within the broader context of the hydrogeologic setting and evolution of karst. In its turn, speleogenesis is a primary process that determines essential features of the hydrogeology of karst, and guides its evolution in many ways.

Therefore, the goal of the Commission is to promote scientific cooperation and research in karst hydrogeology, with special emphasis to speleogenesis as the core problem of permeability development in karst aquifers and their overall evolution.
