1. Flat plain surrounded by higher limestone country on all except one side which consists of impermeable ridges or hills. Such a feature is normally found on the edge of a karst area or region . 2. Flat limestone plain which is surrounded by higher country but is bordered on one side by impervious rock . Synonyms: (French.) polje marginal; (German.) Randpolje, Semipolje; (Greek.) perithoriakon 'polje'; (Italian.) polje marginale; (Spanish.) polje marginal; (Turkish.) kenar golova; (Yugoslavian.) rubno polje, robno polje. See Randpolje.
